Passing On Some Liebster Love

We’ve been nominated for a Liebster award by Tabitha over at her blog, Tabitha’s Gluten Free Dishes. Thank you Tabitha, we’re flattered! You guys should check out her recipes to get more delish ideas for the holidays (wink)!

The Liebster award is for bloggers to spread some love about the blogs they are really into. And, boy are we into other bloggers! We also found out that it’s a way for bloggers with 3000 followers or less to connect.

When nominated, you need to answer questions set by the blogger who nominated you, share random facts about yourself, nominate blogs you think are great and create questions for them to answer. Tabitha asked some really endearing questions we loved thinking about.

So here goes….

What would you tell your 13 year old self?

Kath: I would tell my 13 year old self that everything now OR when I’m 30, 40 or 60 years old, is okay, and it always will be. Wish I knew that then.

What are you most grateful for?

Kath: Without a doubt my 3 kids, and now my grand-baby too. My love for them goes beyond grateful.

What, where and with whom was your best best meal?

Christine: I don’t know if it was the best food, but it was my best meal. Since we’re talking best, I was in Brooklyn with my best friends Danielle, Shannon and Steve. We told Danielle’s boyfriend we wanted an authentic Brooklyn, Italian food experience. When we arrived, there was a private party, but we were sat as the only public table off in the corner- it was as if we were at a wedding. Our waiter came to take our drink order- after ten minutes or so with no drinks delivered, we wondered, where was he? Just as we looked up, our waiter grabbed the microphone and began singing Sweet Caroline to the entire restaurant. The place was roaring, we were laughing… He sauntered over after his rendition with my Heineken in his back pocket. And yes, it was truly an authentic experience to be remembered!

Why did you start blogging?

I’d been dying to start a health based blog when I started my private practice in health care many moons ago. Patients wanted to know more than the basics- I saw blogging as a way of extending my practice- as a way to help advocate for integrative medicine and lifestyle design. Highlighting research that often gets buried by big pharma and helping people understand they have choices when it comes to their health and wellness and overall daily lives is the biggest reason I began blogging and still do now. Couldn’t stop me if ya tried, haha.

If you had to choose between winter or summer sun?

Kath: Oh summer for sure, on the west coast, in the dry summer sun. Fantastic!

What is your favorite cookbook?

I really love Julia Child’s, Mastering The Art of French Cooking– those are recipes I have not conceived of myself- might sound like a cliche answer, but I love this classic and cook from it often. The recipes are a challenge to prepare and ones you can be proud of serving to friends. I sometimes have leftovers for days when I don’t have a gang to cook for because her recipes are always so mighty. People are really surprised when I mention her book because it involves butter and fat, and more butter and fat. And you know what I say? Butter and fat can be healthy! Hmmm, maybe you didn’t know that? I remember reading an article that said, “don’t buy this book because it is inconvenient in our Rachael Ray world today.” Eek! Our Rachael Ray world? I say buy it, annotate the recipes, come up with healthier versions. I’m gluten-free and have had no trouble making gluten-free and even dairy free versions of many of the dishes.

What’s made you smile today?
Kath: My first smile today was when I woke up and the sun was shining. Everything’s just better when the sun is out.

Who is your favorite artist?

Kath: An artist myself at heart, Michelangelo is my fave. Few people know he was kind of mysterious or that he never married but had affairs. He did not paint the Sistine Chapel ceiling laying on his back, and he never thought he was a good artist.

What is the post your’re most proud and why (link please)?

While it’s not the most prolific post, I love it because it encompasses how fun I think my work is. Somebody asked me, “how can you possibly be good at all of those things you do?” EVERY-thing I do evolves and revolves around the philosophy- live well in the now, go forth and be merry. That’s how I get things done well! Kath (my mom) helps me remember this when I think I have too much to do!

Who or what has inspired you most to write or whilst writing your blog?

My mom, patients, our clients and of course, other bloggers hands down. My mom inspires me to do great things- she’s amazing- we have so much fun creating this blog together to bring everyone!

I loathe censorship and think people should have an opportunity to evaluate many types of well-researched information before making important life-changing decisions. What’s happening in the world of food is my biggest inspiration to write right now. From writing about simple pleasures of recipe creation with our contributors and growing real food to discussing imminent issues like keeping Monsanto from taking over our food supply are continued inspirations.
