While visiting my local garden store, I noticed a four-pack of withering, brown watermelon plants. Obviously, someone had given up on them. I felt bad for them “dying” at the garden nursery, and now, with a lot of organic compost and daily watering, they’re growing like crazy. Although they got a late start in the garden, the melons came on a week ago and get bigger while we’re sleeping. Unlike most of our other veggies, the leaves are still a vibrant green and still producing buds which will turn into new melons. They also aren’t bothered by our cooler fall nights. We just can’t wait to cut into these beauties. Patience is the key!
